Step 3b - Create a Facility Diagram

Create a diagram(s) of your facility.  The diagram(s) should be large enough to encompass all areas of your facility in which there are unsecured food TARGETS, and in sufficient detail to differentiate physical separations between TARGET areas.

The TRAP-ITÔ PLANNER offers two options for creating your facility diagram(s):

1.       Import an existing electronic image in a .jpeg format through your TRAP-ITÔ flash drive by clicking on the “Replace Image” button.

2.      Manually draw a facility diagram using the drawing tools included in the TRAP-ITÔ PLANNER software.

More than one diagram can be created if there are multiple buildings, or the size of the building requires you to break the facility into multiple food security areas.  You will be required to assign a unique name to each diagram.

When am I done with this step?

This section is complete when you have a sufficient number of diagrams that graphically represent all areas of your facility containing unsecured food TARGETS.

Drawing the Facility Diagram

Selecting 'Create a Facility Diagram' takes you to Step 3b where all of the tools needed to create facility diagrams are located.

Start by selecting 'Import a Background Image', assuming you would like to use one, and proceed by using the drawing tools to add any necessary detail.  If you prefer, your favorite graphics program can be used to add detail to an image prior to importing it.  You can also use the TRAP-ITÔ tools to draw the entire diagram and not import a background image at all.  The choice is yours.

There will be times when one diagram is not sufficient for representing an entire facility, so TRAP-ITÔ allows for an unlimited number of diagrams to be created.  Each diagram is named, and an optional description field allows comments to be attached to each unique diagram.

Click the down arrow to see the list of diagrams you have created, and select the one you would like to work with.  You may find that you need a number of diagrams depending upon the size of your floor space, grounds, and storage areas.

Grid lines make the task of drawing easier and more accurate.  Checking and unchecking this option will show and hide these lines.
To zoom in or out on the diagram, click on the associated zoom button.  Each additional click will zoom the drawing again until the maximum or minimum zoom level has been reached.
To start a new diagram, select this button.  There is no practical limit on the number of diagrams that can be created.

Edit:  Select 'Edit' to alter the name or description of the current diagram.
Replace Image:  To use a JPEG image as the background for a diagram, select the Replace Image.  This needs to be done prior to using the drawing tools, otherwise the sketches that have been made will be replaced with the imported image.
Save:  The Save button stores any changes that have been made to the diagram.
Delete:  Click the Delete button to discard the current diagram and all associated targets, access points, and perimeters.
Revert to Saved Diagram:  If you would like to abandon the changes you have made to a diagram and go back to the version you last saved, click the Revert button.

The Edit button brings up the Edit
Diagram window.  The Name field is
required information, but the desciption
field is optional.

Use the Edit menu to cut, copy or paste
text into the name or description field.

Use the drawing tools to add to your diagram. Click on a tool to see instruction for its use. When
you're finished with a tool, click on another tool, or click on the 'Finished with tool' button.

The Irregular tool is used to draw multisided shapes on a diagram.  Click the Irregular button, click on the diagram where you would like the shape to start, and continue clicking at each subsequent point to which you would like a line to extend.  Double-click to complete the shape.
To draw a line, click on the start point, move to the endpoint, and click.
Click on the Entrance button, and then click where the entrance should be located.
If you make a mistake, click the Undo button, and the last change that was made will be deleted.
Click on the Ellipse button, and then click on the place in the diagram where the ellipse should be located, drag out to the desired size, and click.
To place text on the diagram, click the Label button, click on the location for the text to appear, and enter the desired text.
Use the Eraser by clicking the button, and then move the eraser over the area to be removed.

Selecting the Load button, lets you load a pre-existing JPEG image of your choice, but no change to your diagram will take place until the Replace button has been clicked.
You may decide that the purpose of the background image is simply to add context to your diagram, but it should not be the dominant factor in the diagram.  Dragging the slider button to the right will lighten the background and give you the effect you are looking for.  The opposite effect can be achieved by dragging the slider to the left.

Clicking the 'Restore original level' button will discard any changes that have done to the brightness level.

To replace your diagram with the diagram image you just loaded, (the one currently being displayed) click the Replace button.  Be aware, however, that the old diagram will be permanently overwritten with the new image.
The Cancel button will close the window without saving any of the changes that have been made.  You will be returned to your old diagram with it completely intact.
